Aprilia RSV4 Factory – mid-2011 – Rs. 12 lakh*

Aprilia, one of Italy’s most famous bike makers and the world’s No.4 motorcycle manufacturer, is planning to open shop in India using Piaggio’s network. The first Aprilia motorcycle to be sold in India could be the Aprilia RSV4 factory superbike.

The Aprilia RSV4 is powered by a 999.6 cc V4 engine that belts out 180 bhp. The RSV4 weighs 179 kg, thanks to the plentiful use of carbon fibre which ensures rider safety and easier maneuverability. The price of the RSV4 Factory is yet to be announced.
Various sources speculate that the first Aprilia showroom could be opened in Pune. Based on market response, Aprilia may further expand its motorcycle lineup. The Aprilia RSV4 Factory will compete with Yamaha FZ1, YZF-R1, Honda CB1000RR, and Suzuki GSX 1000R.

BMW R1200 GS – March 2011 launch – Rs. 18 lakh*

BMW Motorrad, the motorcycle division of renowned German car brand BMW will sell its motorcycles in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. The BMW R1200 GS belongs to the BMW Motorrad brand’s Enduro category. The R1200 GS is powered by an oil-cooled flat twin (‘Boxer’) 4-stroke, 1,170 cc engine that produces 110 hp at 7,750 rpm and a maximum torque of 120 Nm at 9,750 rpm.
With a top speed of over 200 km/h, the fuel consumption of R1200 GS is around 18 – 23 kmpl. The price of R1200 GS is expected to be around Rs. 18 lakh. We expect BMW Motorrad to make announcements during the first quarter of 2011.

BMW S1000 RR – March 2011 launch – Rs. 19 lakh*

The S1000 RR belongs to the BMW Motorrad brand’s Urban category. The BMW S1000 RR is powered by water-cooled 4 cylinder, 4-stroke, 999 cc engine that produces 193 hp at 13,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 112 Nm at 6,000 rpm.
With a top speed of over 200 km/h, the fuel consumption of S1000 RR is around 16 – 17.5 kmpl. The price of the BMW S1000 RR is expected to be around Rs. 19 lakh. We expect BMW Motorrad to make announcements during the first quarter of 2011.

Kawasaki Ninja 650R – March 2011 launch – Rs. 5 lakh – 7 lakh

Looking at the successful sales of the Kawasaki Ninja 250R in 2010, Bajaj is confident of bringing in the bike’s bigger sibling, the 650R. Within a year of its launch 1,000 Ninja 250R bikes have been sold despite the price tag of Rs. 3 lakhs, on road. This shows that there is a healthy demand for premium motorcycles in the country.
The Kawasaki Ninja 650R is thoroughbred sports bike with all the trappings of a superbike, and should do well on Indian roads. The Kawasaki Ninja 650R is powered by a 649 cc parallel-twin engine that produces about 70 bhp of power and 66 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
The narrow trellis frame of the Kawasaki Ninja 650R houses the liquid-cooled, lightweight DOHC engine, quite low-down, giving the bike a very stable feel. The rider also sits low in the saddle in a classic sports bike stance. This is a bike on which you can ride all day long, and its excellent mid-range performance means you would really enjoy it on the highways.

Harley Davidson 833 Sportster – mid 2011 launch – Rs. 5 lakh

Harley-Davidson has said it will open a factory in India to assemble select motorcycle models. The first model likely to be assembled in India is theHarley Davidson 833 Sportster. This CBU bike costs Rs. 6.95 lakhs currently. However, we could expect a significant reduction in price once this bike becomes a CKD bike when assembled locally.
The Harley Davidson India website offers some information about the Sportster 883. The engine is an air-cooled, rubber-mounted 883cc Evolution engine and exhaust is Staggered Shorty exhaust. The Evolution V-Twin engine is air-cooled, and the powertrain with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) of the Sportster 883 offers 74.57 Nm of torque at @ 3500 rpm. The Sportster would be a 5-speed bike.
Fuel tank of this cruiser is classic peanut fuel tank and holds 12.5 litres. The Sportster 883 features a low solo Sportster rider seat. Wheels are silver, 13-spoke cast aluminum. Black headlamp bucket with polished visor and chrome trim ring, stainless steel, pull-back handlebar and black riser come as standard. Fuel efficiency would be approx 25 kilometers to a liter on the highway, and around 17-18 kmpl in the city.

Honda CBR250R – April 2011 launch – Rs. 1.5 lakh – 1.8 lakh*

HMSI has started taking bookings from prospective customers of the Honda CBR250R in India. The booking amount is Rs. 5,000 and the bike will be available in two variants, standard and ABS. The expected price of the CBR250R standard version is Rs. 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and that of the CBR250R ABS version is Rs. 1.8 lakh.
The Honda CBR250R produces 26 bhp and a maximum torque of 17 lb/ft @ 7000 rpm. Kawasaki Ninja makes 32 bhp and 16 lb/ft. The CBR250 R (161 kg/ 356 lbs) is lighter than the Ninja 250R (169 kg/373 lbs). Thus, Honda CBR250R looks to be a close competitor to the Ninja 250R.
CBR250R will be a big launch not just for Honda, but for the premium bike segment buyers in the 250 cc category. Because, Kawasaki Ninja is priced at Rs. 3 lakh and Honda is ready to offer its CBR250R at Rs. 1.5 lakh – 1.8 lakh price range, accessing a larger group of bike enthusiasts.

Mahindra Mojo – March 2011 launch – Rs. 1.75 lakh

Mahindra made an entry into the motorcycle segment with the premium 300 cc Mojo launched earlier this month. The jury is out on the Mojo’s radical design, but according to the company, the bike follows a “Tear Drop” design found only in extreme racing machines. The double-barreled exo-frame is also a first on Indian roads. The Mahindra Mojo uses a Ducati Energia electronic fuel injection system for better fuel efficiency.
The Mahindra Mojo is powered by a 292 cc engine that churns out 25 hp (19.3 kW) @ 8500 rpm and peak torque of 24 Nm @ 7000 rpm. The Mojo features dual exhausts, and has both front and rear disc brakes.
Advanced liquid cooling technology and one of the largest petal disc brakes (320 mm) on any bike in India are other notable features of the Mojo. At Rs. 1.75 lakhs (ex-showroom, Pune), the Mojo is a great option for performance enthusiasts without blowing a hole in their pocket.

KTM Duke 125 – March 2011 launch – Rs. 1.25 lakh

The much awaited KTM Duke 125 will be launched this year. The Duke 125 gets its grunt from a liquid-cooled fuel-injected powerplant with a claimed output of 15 bhp at 10,500 rpm and 8.9 lb-ft torque at 8000 rpm. The engine is fed its power via a six speed transmission.
The photos of the Duke 125 reveal a muscular fuel tank with the seats and rear end tapering off at a high angle. The low slung exhaust has a short reach and finishes off just behind the engine. The Duke 125’s suspension unit consists of an inverted 43mm fork and rear shock, with both units offering 6.3 inches of travel.
KTM developed the single disc brakes at the front and rear with the guidance of industry-leader Brembo. The bike is a lightweight unit as well. With its 11-liter gas tank full, the little zapper weighs in at a lithe 112 kgs. The bike will be built in India to keep costs down but expect total KTM quality control.

Yamaha R15 facelift – Jan 2011 launch – Rs. 1.10 lakh*

The new Yamaha R15 will have split seats, a wider rear tyre, raised rear seat, new alloy wheel pattern, rear wheel hugger, all new exhaust, LED tail lamps and slightly improved power and torque. Owing to the upgrades, Yamaha will increase the price of the 2011 R15 motorcycle.
The R15 is powered by a 149.8 cc, SOHC, single cylinder, 4 valve engine that produces maximum power of 17 PS @ 8500 rpm and maximum torque of 15 Nm @ 7500 rpm. The engine is mated to a six speed gearbox.
The Yamaha R15 is equipped with Electronic Fuel Injection technology. By using this technology, optimum amount of fuel with correct air mixture is supplied to the engine in order to enhance fuel efficiency.
Currently the R15 is priced at Rs. 1.02 lakh (on-road, Delhi). We expect the prices to go up slightly when face-lifted R15 is rolled out. Yamaha Motor India is planning to launch the refreshed YZF-R15 on January 25, 2010.
